Tenacious getting settled in her new home at Seaworks

Escape the Australia winter for the warm, tropical sun, azure blue lagoons and palm fringed beaches of Fiji all while having an epic adventure aboard a magnificent tall ship!

The Jubilee Sailing Trust’s SV Tenacious is the largest operative wooden sailing ship in the world and is currently sailing around Oceania waters after circumnavigating the world, 18,000 nautical miles from Southampton (UK) to Australia. You now have the opportunity to join the crew of this incredible ship on the oceanic adventure of a lifetime.

Jubilee Sailing Trust (JST) is a globally unique, UN-accredited charity which utilises the adventure of tall ship sailing to unlock human potential and break down barriers between people of different circumstances - especially between people living with disability and the able-bodied. We have now established Jubilee Sailing Trust Australia as a not-for-profit organization, to mark the start of an ongoing relationship with this part of the world.

Tenacious was built 16 years ago by JST in Southampton by 1,500 volunteers approximately half of whom were living with some form of disability. She includes features not seen on other vessels such as six wheelchair lifts between the decks, deck ribs and a speaking compass for the vision impaired, vibrating alarm pads under the bunks for the hearing impaired, you can helm her with the traditional wheel or if limited mobility use a joystick, we can even lift a wheelchair user into the platforms up the mast!

The JST voyage experience encourages self-discovery and cultivates active participation. The supportive and well-designed environment quickly breaks-down prejudice, promotes equality and mutual understanding.  It is where people find new strengths and learn to see strengths in others without being diverted by a perceived weakness.

The effect is an immersive personal development experience, increasing life skills and self-belief.  It is also about enjoying yourself and making new friends.

A voyage with the JST is about joining in and getting involved in all aspects of sailing the ship, regardless of your physical ability. Whether you are a tall ship enthusiast, fair-weather sailor or complete beginner - we welcome everyone. Don’t worry if you haven’t sailed before - most people step on board Tenacious with no experience of sailing a tall ship, so you won’t be alone. Tenacious' permanent crew will support you through all the tasks involved with sailing the ship.

On board Tenacious, JST Australia are trying to create a microcosm of what we all think the world should be, an environment where everyone is included, diversity is celebrated and one where everyone is a valued member of the community. This is not an activity for those living with disability, it is an activity for everyone which includes those with disability.

At 65 metres long, this unique ship will be the perfect setting for an epic voyage starting in the cosmopolitan city of Suva, Fiji and finishing in tropical north Queensland’s Cairns, the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef. Set sail from the bustling hub of Melanesia and meander through the many the palm fringed, white sandy atolls of this stunning archipelago, before voyaging out across the Coral Sea. Dependent upon the direction of the winds, we might visit the tropical islands of Vanuatu, with her deserted beaches and remote rugged islands or the turquoise lagoons of New Caledonia and the charming French / Melanesian city of Noumea.

Having become familiar with the routines of Tenacious, you’ll be ready to take on the deep blue ocean waters. Picture yourself on the teak deck with the white sails filled by the breeze, the smell of freshly baked bread blending with the sea air as it wafts from the galley. Out on the ocean all manner of sea life might be spotted. We may see turtles surfacing for a breath, dolphins playing in the bow wave or albatross soaring across the waves as you sail the Coral Sea bound for Australia.

In time, you’ll spot where the rainforest meets the sea in North Queensland’s Cairns with its infectious holiday vibe. Finally take the chance to reflect on your amazing experience while soaking in the heady humidity and hearty hospitality before returning home.

Visit for more information on this voyage or for the other spectacular voyages in our current Australia & New Zealand programme.
