Wild Child wins 10th Anniversary BLiSS Regatta
by RBYC BLiSS Regatta
The 10th year of the Brighton Ladies Skipper Series saw increased entry numbers, with over 20 boats enter this years regatta. The Series victory went to an RBYC regular skipper Margaret Neeson and her triumphant crew aboard Wild Child.
Conditions were light for the whole weekend, with an on water postponement for the Saturday, as the breeze went from North to South. After the race management hunted the breeze and it steadied Southerly, two of the three windward leeward races scheduled were completed. Strong performances from Wild Child, Rampant, Espresso, Caledonia & Serious Yahoo saw them heading up the series across the different handicap divisions on Day 1.
On Day two, the BLiSS fleet was joined by the Port Phillip Women's Championship Race 5 entrants as they were sent up into the city and around R4, with the race shortened due to the light winds at the RBYC tower on their first time around. The Long passage race winner for RBYC's Associate Cup race was won by Sun Kiss skippered by Sandra McPherson, with Rebecca Irwin on S80 Espresso from RMYS taking out PPWCS race 5 in PHS on the day.
BLiSS Series winners Vanessa Twigg and her crew aboard Serious Yahoo claimed victory in IRC, young RBYC member Kate Jenkins took the win on AMS on Caledonia, and Marg Neeson’s Wild Child was victorious in the PHS division.
Congratulations to all of the ladies who took part in such a great event, helping to promote women’s participation in the sport of sailing on Port Phillip. Special Congratulations to the winners in such a hotly contested regatta.
Big thank you to the volunteers across the weekend and the efforts of the organising committee and to the host of sponsors who helped make the event possible.
