Port Phillip Women's Passage Series

The Port Phillip Women’s Passage Series (PPWPS) is back for its second season in 2016-17 and will tandem with Australian Sailing Victoria's newly launched Port Phillip Passage Series (PPPS) to provide a series of five leisurely long distance races to destinations around Port Phillip.

The PPWCS will be contested on the waters of Port Phillip from September 2016 to May 2017 and kicks off with the ORCV Women Skippers & Navigators Race (est 2013) in September 2016 and runs to May 2017.

The series provides further opportunities for female keelboat sailors to hone their skills over longer passages without the pressures of short course racing and introduce them to developing new skills in navigation, radio operations and weather prediction across different sectors and over extended periods of time.

Joining forces with the PPPS, we look forward to great sailing and fun destination parties over the series. We also hope to attract more cruiser racers and family groups to our events.

Series format

Five participating clubs each host one race. If less than three race days are completed, a boats worst score shall be re-included in her series score.

Boats can compete in AMS and/or an event-based performance handicap. Three races constitute a series.

The helmsperson for all races of the series must be female. Any change of helm during the series must be notified to the host club.

Female crew members are encouraged and a prize for the boat in performance handicap with more than 50% female crew for all races will be awarded.

Full details are published in the Notice of Race.

How to enter

Competitors must enter each individual race separately using the host club's entry system. Cost to enter each race is determined by the host club.

On entry to any one of the five races, competitors will be automatically scored for the PPWPS.

Prizes

Series prizes will be awarded for -

  • First, second and third placed boats in each of AMS and Event Performance Handicap (if more than five boats entered in the division).
  • First boat in Performance Handicap that has more than 50% female crew for all races.

The Port Phillip Women's Passage Series Trophy is engraved with the winners of AMS and Event Performance handicap system and resides for the following season at the club of the winner of PHS.
